John R. McNeill
Interim Director
John McNeill was born and raised in Chicago and remains passionately devoted to the professional sports teams of the Windy City. He earned, or at any rate was awarded, a B.A. from Swarthmore College and a Ph.D. from Duke University. Since 1985 he has cheerfully served two masters, as a faculty member of the School of Foreign Service and History Department at Georgetown. From 2003 until 2006 he held the Cinco Hermanos Chair in Environmental and International Affairs, until his appointment as University Professor. He currently serves at the Interim Director of the Mortara Center for International Studies during the Fall semester of 2009.
He teaches world history, environmental history, and international history at Georgetown; and writes books, and directs Ph.D. students, mainly in environmental history. He lives an agreeably harried existence with his triathlete wife and their four exuberant children. If he had time, he would enjoy hiking, tennis, basketball, and travel.
Aliz Agoston
Assistant Director
Aliz Agoston manages the center's operations including financial, marketing and human resources, in addition to assisting the director with research and various projects. She is a recent graduate of Georgetown University's Master of Business Administration program and has a Master's Degree in English.
Adam Olszowka
Program Assistant
Adam Olszowka manages the operations of the front office, including the technology and space management of the Mortara conference room, assists the director with foreign policy related research and helps with the Center's events. He also assists faculty and students who work in the Mortara building. He holds a B.A. in History from DePaul University and is currently enrolled in the Security Studies Program.
