Call for Nominations

Lepgold Book Prize:

The Georgetown University Book Prize honors Joseph S. Lepgold, a Georgetown University Government and School of Foreign Service professor who died in a tragic hotel fire in Paris in December 2001. The prize honors exceptional contributions to the study of international relations.  Past winners of the prize include John Mearsheimer (The Tragedy of Great Power Politics), Samantha Power (A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide), Michael McFaul and James Goldgeier (Power and Purpose: US Policy Towards Russia After the Cold War), Jack Snyder and Edward Mansfield (Electing to Fight), Robert Kagan (Dangerous Nation), and Nina Tannenwald (The Nuclear Taboo).

The prize awards $1000 to the author of the best book in international relations, broadly conceived, each year.  Georgetown also invites the author to give a lecture.  Should one of your books be chosen as the prize winner, you are of course free to use this fact in your publicity and advertising.

To nominate a book for this year’s prize, please send 4 copies of the book (only books published in 2008 are eligible for this year’s award) with a cover letter briefly stating your reasons for nomination to the following address:

The deadline for submitting nominations is December 1st, 2009.  The prize committee will be convening in mid-December, so it is important to submit any nominations soon so that they can be considered.  The prize for books published in 2008 will be issued at the end of February 2010 with the lecture to be given in March of 2010.
