Margaret Tilmes
BSFS '24
Margaret Tilmes is a first-year in the School of Foreign Service and plans to major in Science, Technology, and International Affairs. Growing up in Maryland, she loved biking on the C&O Canal and exploring D.C., sparking her deep interest in the environment and public policy. Today, she is intrigued by the links between environmental science, migration studies, and human rights, especially as they relate to climate migration. Her proseminar, “Ethical Challenges in Literature and Life,” with Professor Pierce, gave her an appreciation for ethics and inspired her to study moral questions such as: how can we develop scalable solutions to ensure just futures for all in the face of global warming? Outside of MURF, Margaret enjoys spending time with her family, playing violin, and being involved in the Georgetown Renewable Energy and Environmental Network. Since the beginning of quarantine, she also has helped organize a volunteer effort to provide PPE and other medical supplies to local hospitals and clinics in need.
