Martha Thomas
Assistant Professor, School of Foreign Service
Martha S. Thomas is Assistant Professor of the Practice in the School of Foreign Service and Executive Director of the Academic Council on the United Nations System, an international organization of scholars and practitioners of UN affairs, currently housed at Georgetown University. Prof. Thomas teaches courses on International Organizations, Analysis of Political Data, and International Political Economy at Georgetown University. She previously taught Political Science and International Relations at George Washington University, University of Vermont, and Pennsylvania State University. Her research focuses on issues of International Political Economy including enforcement of international trade agreements, challenges to integration in the European Union, legal disputes with NAFTA, and migration trends in Europe. She has conducted field research in Belgium, Ireland, and Italy, and has been awarded over ten grants, fellowships, and scholarships. Prior to her academic employment she interned at the United Nations assisting in planning the Annual UN Department of Public Information NGO Conference. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science, an MA in Public Policy, and a BA in Economics.
