Title: Call for Nominations: 2024 Lepgold Book Prize

The annual Georgetown University Lepgold Book Prize recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of international relations. The prize is named in honor of Joseph S. Lepgold, a Georgetown University Government and School of Foreign Service professor who tragically passed away in December 2001. The call for nominations for the Book Prize is published each calendar year. The winner of the 2023 Lepgold Book Prize was Didac Queralt for Pawned States: State Building in the Era of International Finance (2022). Other recent books awarded include Yeling Tan’s Disaggregating China Inc. (2021), Jason Lyall’s Divided Armies (2020), Marina Henke’s Constructing Allied Cooperation (2019), Paul Poast’s Arguing About Alliances (2019), and Austin Carson’s Secret Wars (2018).

The prize awards $1,000 to the author of the best book in international relations each year. The winning author receives their award upon presenting a lecture on their research at the Mortara Center. The book prize ceremony and lecture will be scheduled in consultation with the winner to take place during the fall 2024 semester. 

Eligibility: Only books published in 2023 are eligible for this year’s award. Authors affiliated with Georgetown University are not eligible. 

Nomination Procedure: To nominate a book for this year’s prize, please fill out this Google Form answering a few brief questions. If you are nominating more than one book, please fill out the Google Form for each book (1 nomination per form). Once complete, you will be notified of the postal addresses to send nominated books.

Deadline: The deadline for electronic nominations via the Google Form is June 23, 2024.
