Title: Mortara Hosts Spring 2023 In The News Events

This semester, the Mortara Center has hosted two In The News events to connect academia and the public on headline-topping international relations issues. On February 14, the Mortara Center and the African Studies Program co-hosted In The News: Nigeria Votes: What To Expect with Professor Ken Opalo, featuring opening remarks from Amaku Anku. Since the event, Nigeria has held its presidential election alongside its local elections.

Meanwhile, on February 24, the Mortara Center and the Center for Security Studies held In The News: The Invasion of Ukraine: One Year On. The all-female panel of experts featured Sara Bjorg Moller, Pauliina Patana, Angela Stent, and Caitlin Talmadge, who discussed the event’s impact so far and projections for how the invasion would continue to shape international relations moving forward. The event was a part of a series of events hosted by the Walsh School of Foreign Service marking the one year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In The News is a series of speaker panel events that highlight current issues and events happening in international relations. Speakers come from both academia and policymaking to present a range of perspectives for events covered in newspapers.
